We find that adding found text to a sketchbook page can give it an added interest. On the page above I have used a variety of different letters to add a title to the page. Notice how I’ve used three smaller letters vertically to balance the rather huge ‘R’?
This leaf page is still a work in progress and as it was too large for the intended sketchbook so I’ve folded it to fit. I could have ripped off the excess, but instead added found ransom letters , once again playing with different sized letters to create a text block.
Another page which has a way to go but being helped on its waywith some found text! To make sure the lettersdon't flake off I’ve used matt medium, applying it over the top as well as underneath. It is more expensive than pva but it has a matt finish and gives additional texture to the page, which becomes apparent when translucent glazes and washes are used.
So if you want to add some text detail to your sketchbook page get those scissors out and start snipping! Store your letter in an envelope (naturally!) or
go the whole way with me and a repurpose a thread box into a letter tray!
We hope that gives you some creative inspiration - why not let us know how you get on?
