Rebecca Bennett - Needle felted Christmas robin
Rebecca is a local mixed media artist with a passion for inspiring and enthusing students with a desire to be creative. Following a degree in Fine Art Sculpture Rebecca worked as an Art and Design teacher in both the UK and USA. Her sculptural works have been displayed in both the Royal West of England Academy in Bristol and The Royal Society Of British Sculptors in London.
In this fun one-day workshop you will create a festive robin using the unique art form of dry needle felting. You will learn about compositions and how to layer and blend wool to create your piece. There will be plenty of demonstrations and hands on assistance.
The workshop will begin by drawing out the shape of your robin onto a piece of felt. Using wool strands, you will then layer the wool to create your piece.
You will have the option to keep your piece just as a felted piece or you could develop it by adding details such as text and free machine embroidery elements, buttons and lace. Your piece can be presented in a frame or an embroidery hoop. An 18 x 18 cm box frame is included in the price. |
Feeling creative? For those of you feeling even more creative, you will have several options during this workshop you may wish to create a series, instead of focusing on one robin or you could also start a larger piece of pre-felt to then develop into a cushion or bag in your own time.
Rebecca says: I must warn you that this technique is addictive and in once you start it’s hard to stop!
NB: Please be aware that the technique is fairly repetitive so may not be suitable for people with back/neck pain.
This workshop is suitable for beginners or those with some experience.
