Create your own cloth - in a bucket

This workshop is a great place to develop your journey into colour and creating your own fabric

Picture
Over the four days you'll use fibre reactive dyes to colour natural fibres (cotton or linen) to create a stash of coordinating fabrics.  Use them as they are or take them forward into other surface design workshops, adding further layers of interest and  complexity.

In the first  two days we will focus on mixing simple and complex colours using Procion MX dyes and you'll be able to develop colour families from your own sources of inspiration.

As well as using a high  water immersion technique to  create a 'family' of fabrics with a solid colour and minimal surface texture, you'll also use just one colour to dye a graduated palette and finally use two colours for a simple, but effective, exchange technique.
Later in the week we'll introduce you to tray dyeing, a technique to produce fabrics with more visual texture and wow! factor.  This is one of the simplest ways to get a specific texture, and can be quite addictive!
Our studio has plenty of parking and direct access;  it's a purpose built, light and airy space which is fully equipped for surface design as well as other textile techniques.  The  workshop fee includes access to all the dye, paint and most of the equipment you will need but you will need to bring your own fabrics,  however we do stock prepared for dyeing fabric which you can buy direct as required.  Each workshop  has a maximum of ten students, each working on individual, height adjustable benches.

We will provide tea and coffee but you will need to bring your own packed lunch. There is a fridge, oven and microwave should you wish to warm up your lunch.
