Weave twined baskets and pods with Polly Pollock
Polly's work combines basketry and stitched textile techniques, exploring themes of homemaking and nurture, damage, protection and repair.
Working mostly with paper yarns which she dyes using gentle eco-dyes, often produced from her vegetable peelings, tea leaves, etc, to give soft and gentle colour palettes, Polly tries to ensure her work, albeit in small ways, avoids contributing to the mounting levels of waste in the world today.

In this one-day workshop Polly will introduce you to twined basketry, a method of making baskets found around the world. The defining features of twined basketry are the use of softer, flexible materials, and the density of the weave which supports the structure.
With Polly's help and enthusiasm you’ll learn some basic techniques such as getting started, weaving your basket/pod form, adding stakes and weavers, using colour and texture, and simple finishes.

We will look at seed pods as inspiration for creating your work during the day, and Polly will bring examples of more complex forms which have also been inspired by seed pods; she'll also bring examples of a range of basketry made using twined basketry techniques for you to have a good look at.
