The story of InStitchesWe are Hazel Ryder and Terry Donaldson and together we are InStitches. Based on the Hampshire/Berkshire borders, we are passionate quilt makers and like nothing more than dyeing and printing our own fabrics to use in our quilts.
We have been running textile courses for nearly 20 years and set up InStitches in 2013 so that we can share our passion and inspire as many people as possible to get stitching and creating. |
We are prolific quilt makers, exhibiting work in the UK, where we have won national awards, and internationally including the 8th International Prague Patchwork Meeting and The Ailsa Craig Quilt Festival in Canada. We are both City and Guilds qualified with wide experience of teaching patchwork, quilting and design at all levels and active members of the Quilters’ Guild of the British Isles and local groups.
We're inspired by many things, from traditional Welsh wholecloth designs to the British coastline and the sea. From afternoon tea (with cake - of course!) to Hazel's allotment. We both use photography and sketchbooks (both making and using), and are avid collectors of things such as rusty bits of metal from the beach and farmyard. Marks and lines, colour and the texture dense stitching creates defines both our work.
Inspirational courses
InStitches' courses and workshops are small and friendly; more often than not both of us are in the Studio, so you'll be sure of receiving plenty of support on an individual and group basis. Even more valuable is the chance to study as part of a group, sharing ideas and successes with fellow students.
