Of course, it is not always necessary to draw from scratch as it were. What is most important is the looking at detail. And we have lots of quick ways of helping to record really accurate proportions and shapes, like tracing for example.
As part of this Hazel demonstrated the potential of drawing apps on the iPad, and everyone went off fired up with enthusiasm to have a go.
And it seems that I was the only person in the room who does not own an iPad or similar tablet!
And then I remembered that I do own a rather ancient graphics tablet for use with my laptop, so I spent an hour of displacement activity downloading new drivers and persuading it to work again, and then another hour exploring what I can do with it. The rather crude result is shown here - with a bit of ingenuity I was able to do a tracing of a photograph, and then remove the photograph. Unfortunately it is not as sophisticated as the apps you can get for iPad etc, and there is not much choice of drawing implement or ink colour and no access to the layers - yet. More exploration needed. But I was absurdly happy with it - just goes to show what you can do with an open mind! |
