Starting points for stitch

“You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.” Maya Angelou

Join us to explore experimental ways of working without a defined end point, first on paper and then in fabric and stitch.

This workshop is your chance to be curious and see where ideas lead you!  We'll introduce you to some of our favourite ways of getting started - Creative Warm-ups.  Not only are they a great way to start exploring a new theme or idea, but they're fantastic exercises for when you just need to be creative and don't know where to start!
Working with inspirational visual prompts and various design methods, different media, fabric and stitch, you'll create texture and pattern so that plain white paper or fabric will evolve to make a unique personal resource for future work relating to your theme (if you have one), or as a beautiful object in its own right.

Being creative isn't a linear process, so over this three day workshop you will move back and forth from paper to fabric.
You'll be encouraged to take some risks, follow that thought, see what happens and just do, just create and above all, just have fun!
It doesn't matter if you're a beginner or come with some experience, because we'll help you to 'step outside your comfort zone', stretch your design skills and develop your ideas with support and enthusiasm.

The InStitches studio has plenty of parking and direct access.  It is a purpose build, light and airy space which is fully equipped for surface design as well as other textile techniques and the  workshop fee includes access to all the media, paint, paper, fabric and most of the equipment you will need.  You will need to bring your own hand sewing kit and a sewing machine (optional)

Each workshop or course has a maximum of ten students, each working on individual, height adjustable benches.

We will provide tea and coffee but you will need to bring your own packed lunch.
There is a fridge, oven and microwave should you wish to warm up your lunch.
