Rosie James - Stitch-Draw cloth books
Rosie James is an artist working mostly in textiles and her work explores the use of the sewing machine as a tool for drawing. She works mainly with the kinds of crowds that form when people gather, looking for the individual within the crowd.
Rosie's work encompasses the use of the stitched line to create drawings which explore the whole world of stitch, textiles, fashion, craft etc and the ways in which stitching and textiles figure in our everyday lives is a continuing fascination for her. Rosie also uses screen printing as well as machine stitching and applique to create layers of imagery.
In this two day workshop the focus will be on making a cloth book using a variety of materials including transparent fabrics and paper, adding texture and interest with colourful fabric scraps and Bondaweb applique. As well as building confidence with free motion embroidery and exploring ways of drawing with your sewing machine, you will learn lots of techniques in the production of the book. Rosie will guide you as you plan the pages using imagery from magazines, books, or your own photos.
Scrumptious biscuits with your morning coffee, a light seasonal vegetarian lunch and a 'naughty, but nice' cake with a pot of afternoon tea are included in the workshop fee.
