Print!

"Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful”  William Morris

In our quilt making and stitched textiles we like to keep our fabrics personal and so for us that means stepping up to the bench and creating our own.  One of the ways we like to colour and print to fabric is by using textile screen printing inks and 'found' objects - everyday items not originally intended to be used for printing !

If that appeals to you too then why not join us for the day and let us show you how?
First thing we'll show you is how to design and make some simple printing blocks. We will give you everything you need to make several different kinds, and they will be yours to keep and take away with you at the end of the workshop.

You will then get started printing on paper so you can try out your new printing blocks and see the different pattern combinations and colour schemes.  These printed papers make great additions to your design sketchbook or for use in collage work.  Don't do either?  No problem,  they also make fantastically original gift wrapping papers!
We'll also include one metre of white cotton fabric so once you've practised on paper you'll then have the opportunity to create your own bespoke fabric using your very own printing blocks for that truly original look.

We also have a wide and eclectic range of printing tools available in the studio and you can use these during the workshop. They'll give you some idea of the different types of materials and items which can be pressed into service - you'll be surprised at what we  use for printing: ask Hazel to see her potato masher collection!!
Once you've finished printing your fabric it'll need to be heat set to make it permanent and washable.  You can then use it in a wide range of different ways: add it to your quilt-making stash, sew it into a cushion or bag, or why not make your own lampshade?  In the studio we stock 30cm drum lampshades kits, which are idea for either a ceiling light or table lamp and will be available to buy on the day.
