Matthew's work employs dying, cutting and hand stitching and is concerned primarily with abstract imagery and the translation of drawn marks into cloth. By making work that is pieced, patched and assembled, he aims to create pieces that explore repetition, pattern and the disrupted or dissonant journey of line and image across and through the surface of cloth.
This 4-day mentoring workshop with Matthew is designed for those looking for a more in-depth conversation and analysis of their work.
The aim is to facilitate reflection, discussion and experimentation with the purpose of developing a stronger personal visual language and approach to making.

Over the course of the workshop there will be focused one to one mentoring, structured group discussions as well as self-directed practical activity. Matthew will be encouraging and supporting you as you develop your personal language, creating a narrative and history through the interaction of making, materials and process.
