Weave an easy willow apple basket with Judith Needham
Join us in the studio this summer with Farnham based willow weaver, Judith Needham as she teaches us how to make a beautiful, but easy, willow apple basket from natural, sustainable willow grown in Somerset. This workshop is a great introduction to basketry for complete beginners and makes a good practice session for those with some basket making experience.
You will end up with a smart round basket about 25cm tall and 20cm diameter. You can choose to add a handle to make a traditional apple picker shape or leave it as a basket for displaying fruit or for perhaps for storing craft materials.
We will start with a wooden base which means we skip a couple of the trickier parts of basket making and can get straight on to the fun part – weaving up the sides. It also leaves time to make a really smart border and to add a handle if you wish. There are still lots of techniques to learn which makes for a very interesting day with the bonus of taking home a beautiful, functional object that you’ve made yourself.
Suitable for beginners and those who have worked with willow before.
