Debbie Lyddon - Exploring place

This autumn discover new ways of inspiring your creative work by using all of your senses to observe the world around you with Debbie Lyddon.

Picture
Inspired by landscape and place, Debbie uses mixed media and textiles to create sculptural pieces, installations and drawings. She explores the natural processes of change that occur in the coastal environment of Norfolk where she is partly based, paying attention to things that are seen and also to sounds, happenings and touch.

She enjoys the process of making and constructing with cloth, and experiments with non-traditional coastal materials such as salt, seawater and bitumen to change the natural qualities of the cloth.

In her words: "My practice aims to present a multi-sensory interpretation of my surroundings – one that can be seen, touched and heard."
In this three-day workshop you will have time to really become  immersed in your surroundings, spending time outside collecting information from the environment. The studio is in a rural setting so there is plenty of space to explore nearby: river and woodland, fields and lanes. Looking, listening and touching, seeing the details, experiencing the sounds and smells. This material will be documented with drawing, sound recording and writing.

Back in the studio your collections will form a starting point for experiments with paper, cloth, stitch, mark-making, collage and printing to create a unique and personal record of your exploration of place. You'll go away with a new approach to starting a creative project, ready to take with you to your favourite inspirational place.
