Sam Jones - Nature's colours
|
Sam is a mixed media artist living and working in Hampshire and an active member of Ditchling Dyers.
Having had the opportunity to study under the guidance of Jenny Dean, Sam is currently exploring eco printing, natural dyes, indigo and earth pigments in order to make her own work more sustainable. In 2023 Sam set up a local dye garden, where she is growing and then processing a range of natural dyes including indigo. |
This 7 month natural dye course will give you an excellent grounding in how to achieve natural colours on both fabric and thread: you'll explore a variety of natural dyestuffs, learning how to extract colour from them and fix it to a variety of fibres, and the once colour has been achieved you'll extend your colour range using modifiers. Click here for the full programme.
There will be the opportunity to learn how to create a variety of indigo vats and a woad vat, as well as exploring how indigo can be used to overdye previously dyed fibres to create greens and purples.
