Create your own cloth - Luscious Layers - Leah Higgins

Explore what happens when you combine multiple techniques on a piece of fabric, building layers of colour, mark, texture, line and shape

Picture
Leah Higgins is a textile artist and printmaker whose work is inspired by urban and industrial landscapes.  Her art has developed from a life-long love of working with textile and stitch.  The tactile nature of cloth envelopes her in feelings of wellbeing and brings with it memories of people long gone.  Leah can trace her path from making clothes to making bed quilts, from buying printed fabrics to dyeing and printing her own.  From following others to developing her own ideas: from craft to art.

This five day workshop is aimed at those with experience of using Procion MX dyes to add colour to fabric using a range of techniques such as dyeing, screen printing, mark making, monoprinting etc.

Please note: It is NOT suitable for beginners as it assumes prior knowledge of multiple surface design techniques

At the end of the five days you will have a series of samples that combine different techniques, exploring the impact of scale of marks, colour value and colour proportion (these may be little works of art in their own right!). Based on these samples you may also choose to create two or more larger pieces of beautiful, multi-layered art cloth.
With a maximum of 10 students you'll get lots of one to one support from Leah, group demonstrations and detailed class notes.

All the media is included in the course fee but there are a few things you'll need to bring. Please click here for full course details (downloadable pdf)
