Colour to dye for workshops: Adding colour

Come and enjoy a day or two creating beautiful fabric with InStitches.  We will provide the dyes, plus tea and coffee (and if you're lucky a homemade biscuit or two!) but you will need to bring your own fabric (or buy some from us) and a packed lunch.

Our hand dyed fabrics make great starting points for many creative projects.

Don't forget, once you've learnt the techniques and want to do more  you can book one of the studio days, find out more here.

Rainbow dyeing

We all need a little bit of colour in our lives, and this workshop will help you on your way!
When we're dyeing fabric for our InStitches range we use buckets - lots of them, but in Rainbow dyeing you will use the  home friendly method of dyeing in plastic bags.  Less mess, the same fantastic results.
You will learn how to dye using Procion Mx dyes and produce 24 'fat quarters' of 100% cotton fabrics in a rainbow of colours, or if you are super fast, 48!  You will also have the opportunity to dye some coordinating threads.
Due to Coronavirus this workshop originally in March 2021 has been postponed to July 2021. For new dates see below.
This is a fun and enjoyable workshop for beginners as well as those with some experience.

The Rainbow dyeing workshop runs from 9.15am for a 9.30am start to 4pm. We'll provide tea and coffee but you'll need to bring your own packed lunch.

Monday 19th July

Cost: £80 (includes dyes but NOT fabrics or threads)

Playing with colour: tray dyeing

It's time to mix the rainbow up with this workshop! We'll show you how to use a variety of manipulation and layering processes to create a glorious range of textured and coloured fabric.  Prepare to be amazed!

This technique is also a great way to dye some coordinating threads.
This is a fun and enjoyable workshop for beginners as well as those with some experience and is the perfect follow-on to our Rainbow dyeing workshop.

The Playing with colour workshop runs from 9.15am for a 9.30am start to about 4pm. We'll provide tea and coffee  but you'll need to bring your own packed lunch.

Indigo!

If it's summer it must be time for indigo dyeing! We both love the magic of indigo, and never tire of watching the fabric emerging from the vat that gorgeous chartreuse green colour and then slowly turning blue.

On this workshop we will show you how to create a variety of simple resists to produce beautiful patterns on your fabric, including using stitch, clamp, pole and soya wax.
Then the magic can start! If you've always wanted to have a go with indigo, but have been put off by the worry that the recipes are complicated, or that it is a messy and smelly business, then now's your chance to have a go and keep all that in our garden!
However, as a bonus you can take your indigo vat home at the end of the day and use it again - you'll need to as you will be totally hooked! Just bring a bucket with a lid (full requirements list will be sent with the welcome letter).
Our Indigo! workshop runs from 9.15am for a 9.30am start to about 3.30pm and can be enjoyed by beginners as well as those with some experience. We'll provide tea and coffee  but you'll need to bring your own packed lunch.
