Claire Benn - TEXTure

Spend a week with Claire exploring texture and rhythm

Picture
British artist Claire Benn lives and works in a converted barn in Surrey.  Inspired by remote and wild landscapes Claire's work is a visual translation of what she experiences through cloth, thread and pigments.

Her work is exhibited in galleries in both Europe and the USA , as well as here in the UK and Claire's work is featured in both commercial and private collections.

From early cave paintings, runes and symbols, humanity has been trying to communicate since the dawn of time.  In this workshop with Claire, you will explore texture and rhythm and is for anyone who is interested in using text or letterforms to create texture and as a form of mark making.

With permission from Denise Lach, a Master Calligrapher who Claire has studied with, you will explore your own handwriting using a variety of different tools – an invitation to play with written letterforms.  You DO NOT need to have experience of calligraphy and will discover that your own handwriting – no matter how ‘good or bad’ - can be used in a personal and creative way to create texture and depth…, and legibility is far from important!

Throughout the five days you will build a wonderful resource for future work.
