Poetry of decay - a mixed media workshop with Christine Chester

Spend two days exploring ways of using a wide variety of materials to create interesting encrusted surfaces based on deterioration, rust and decay.

We are really pleased to have our friend  and textile artist Christine Chester working with us again.  Christine works in mixed media and her current work explores the effects of dementia on memory and identity. She has exhibited internationally and you may have seen her solo gallery The Fragility of Memory at the Festival of Quilts in 2015.

The urban and industrial environment gives us a wealth of inspiration for surfaces and texture.  You will investigate how materials combine to make unusual marks and then build on that to create texture both real and imagined.
Working on both paper and fabric, and using an element of stitch, we will experiment with inks, paints, wax, rusting powder, oil pastels, and puff binder, we will produce complex surfaces, layering up textures and processes.
This is a truly mixed media approach to textiles for anyone interested in experimenting with surface texture.
This workshop has only 2 places left!
Date: Wednesday 22nd & Thursday 23rd May 2019

The studio will be open from 9.15am and the workshop will start at 9.30am until 4.30pm (ish) each day.

Cost: £200 (this includes some materials)

A £100 deposit will secure your place.

There will be home made biscuits with morning coffee, a light seasonal lunch and an enticing cake with a pot of afternoon tea.
