Create even more beautiful fabric on this two-day workshop exploring the possibilities of thickened dye paste.
Painting and mark making on cloth with thickened dye is one of our favourite ways to create original fabric - you'll see it in our own quilts and the fabrics we sell. With height adjustable benches, plenty of light, a range of different sized screens and mark-making tools, the InStitches studio is perfectly set up for you to start your fabric printing adventure!

One the first day we'll introduce you to using everyday objects (we are fans of the humble potato masher!) with a flour resist and printing techniques to create the beautiful and inspired fabric that you have always longed for.
These will need to be left to dry over night before colour magic can happen!

After lunch you will start to explore colour mixing with thickened Procion dyes and show you how to create painterly effects on your fabric. We'll also be encouraging you to experiment with different mark-making tools (including our flexible friend - the credit card).
The next morning we will introduce you to mark making with melted soya wax, to create yet more exciting and original designs on your fabric. We do have traditional tjantings you can use, but we prefer a more organic approach and will use scruffy paint brushes to flick and splatter the melted wax!
You don't need to have had any previous experience as we make all the resists and dye paints ready for you to use. We'll even let you try out our collection of potato mashers and other household/printing utensils! This is a relaxed and enjoyable course which will guide you through all the steps needed to make a fantastic collection of fabrics in wonderful colours that you will be proud of; we defy you not to get carried away; come and have fun, we always do!
The Making your mark! workshop can be enjoyed by beginners as well as those with some experience. We'll provide tea and coffee but you'll need to bring your own packed lunch.
