Cas is an artist, teacher and author living in the UK. She likes to use discarded items and waste material, no longer considered useful, in her work, which is informed by drawings and photographs, reflecting narratives, places visited and the history of found materials.
These she breaks down and reassembles to make something more meaningful; marking the passage of time, the rituals of making, the relationship of the domestic with the greater landscape. Working with stitch sketching she seeks to capture a moment before it is gone. |
The colours and textures in the urban and natural landscape, from light raking over a ploughed field, bright summer flowers, to buildings reflected in water, can provide stimulus for the design process involved in the creation of the narrative, formal or abstract qualities in textile and mixed-media work.
In this three-day mixed-media workshop Cas will lead you through design exercises leading to machine or hand-stitched drawings onto lightweight fabrics, combined with layered paper and textile techniques. Possibilities will arise to create complex, layered, dimensional drawings which can be transferred onto different fabrics and found materials or paper in a variety of ways.

As the workshop progresses you can choose to incorporate your own personal images, ideas and collected materials, looking at aspects of the design process and creating sketches, samples and notes for further reference.
You will explore different colour applications and use and develop stitch as an additional decorative or textural mark, leaving with a sound basis of processes, working samplers and foundation pieces to build on and develop.

This workshop is suitable for anyone with a little stitch experience who would like to explore the possibilities for creating their own narrative pieces from drawings, stitch and repurposed materials.
There will be home-made biscuits with morning coffee, a light seasonal lunch and an enticing cake with a pot of afternoon tea. So why not treat yourself and spend a day being creative in the company of friends?
