An Investigative journey; fold, unfold - Caroline Bartlett

Working with ideas of a sensory journey, explore structure, surface and form through manipulating and marking both paper and fabric.

Picture
Textiles form the core of Caroline Bartlett's practice, providing not only the means and materials to process and articulate ideas, but  also often through acting as a reference point in relation to content.  The historical, social and cultural associations of textiles, their significance in relation to touch and their ability to trigger memory become components of the work.

Imprinting, stitching, erasing and reworking, folding and unfolding  become defining characteristics, whilst explorations have also resulted in works which integrate textiles with other media such as porcelain.

In this four day workshop with Caroline you will be working with ideas of a sensory journey, explore structure, surface and form through manipulating and marking both paper and fabric. You will be introduced to a range of pleating and folding, tying and binding techniques as a means to shape and structure, and simple print and colouration techniques to enhance form.

Scrumptious biscuits with your morning coffee, a light seasonal lunch and a 'naughty, but nice' cake with a pot of afternoon tea.  All this and a day being creative in the company of like minded people, what's not to like?
