Bringing colour to life
Here at InStitches we love creating our own colour palettes and designing fabrics to use in our stitched textiles.
Very often the starting point for a colour scheme comes from observing the world around us. Whether it’s walking through the vibrant but chaotic bazaars of Jaipur, whipping up a storm in the kitchen or strolling along the Cornish beaches in winter - they all tickle our creative senses and we love capturing that moment in fabric and thread. |
How do you chose your colour schemes?
Do you go for bright and bold...
Do you go for bright and bold...
or do you prefer a more subtle palette?
Over the year we’ll show you how to create colour schemes from your source inspiration and interpret them in fabric and thread. You’ll learn how to dye, paint and print your own fabrics, adding marks and texture, so that by the end of the course you’ll have your own unique collection ready to use

Some of the different techniques you will be introduced to include low immersion dyeing to create a graded colour family, painting with thin and thickened dyes and using a variety of found objects for printing and mark making. You'll get to remove colour, explore mono-printing, experiment with fabric paints and use silk screens in a whole host of different ways.

Our studio is light, bright and fully equipped and you will each have a large, height adjustable padded work-bench. We've included all the dyes etc in the course fee so all you'll need to bring is fabric (about 10 -15 metres over the whole course); however we do stock a variety of fabrics ready for you to buy.
