Artful stitch - how to make a quilt for today
Have you ever looked at contemporary, art or modern quilts on Instagram, Pinterest or at a textile show and thought 'I'd love to be able to do that'? Or have you wanted to start making a quilt but found that the available courses and workshops that offer traditional blocks and sampler quilts not to be 'your thing'?
If so, then this is the course for you! Although we are art quilters we both enjoy piecing and often use blocks and strips for the basis of our quilts. We also understand that whilst traditional blocks and sampler quilts are a great introduction to quilt making, they're not for everyone. |
Instead we've designed this short course to teach you the essential techniques and skills you will need. By the end of the course you will go away with a series of samples rather than a finished quilt, but along the way you will have learned the basic constructional techniques that are used in 21st century quilt making!
Over the course you will learn how to use a rotary cutter and sewing machine to accurately cut and sew both straight and curved seams and we'll even be showing you how to iron properly (yes, really!) because successful quilt making is all about great technique.
Date: coming back in 2022 dates will be announced after the summer
Time: 9.30am until 3.30pm Cost: £255 A £125 deposit will secure your place |
You will also discover different ways of applying fabric to the quilt surface (appliqué) and how to take your quilt making to the very edge by showing you a variety of ways to complete your quilt and achieve a brilliant finish.
This course is perfect for the beginner, but it'll also be useful for the stitcher who has already made a start but still feels they could do with a helping hand. Please note: A sewing machine it is essential for this course. However we do have a couple of studio ones which may be borrowed, if required. Please contact us prior to booking, We will provide the tea and coffee but you must bring a packed lunch! |
