Amanda Hislop - Escape into landscape - make marks: placement: stitch

Combine drawn and painted marks with the tactile qualities of thread, paper and fabric to capture the essence of the landscape with Amanda Hislop.

Picture
Amanda Hislop has been teaching for over 20 years and seeks to blur the boundaries between art and craft.   In her own work she combines drawn and painted marks with thread, paper and fabric, using machine embroidery to add depth and texture.

In this three-day design workshop you will be using drawn lines, colour washes, wax resist, collage and folding techniques to free up and create expressive compositions for development into stitched work.

Using the landscape around the InStitches studio you'll take a walk with a small sketchbook to observe, imagine and take inspiration from the local environment, recording observations through sketches and marks, colour notes, rubbings and words.

Let your personal response to the landscape unfold through intuitive painterly mark making and monotype print to create surfaces to fragment and place in simple arrangements to work with hand stitch creating personal pieces drawing out the essence of local landscape.

You will also have the opportunity to extend and explore  your compositions into surfaces for hand and free machine stitch.
Whether you are a beginner or have plenty of experience this workshop is suitable for anyone interested in working creatively with fabric and thread
