Amanda Hislop - Abstracted land

Combine drawn and painted marks with the tactile qualities of thread, paper and fabric to capture the essence of the landscape with Amanda Hislop.

Picture
Amanda Hislop has been teaching for over 20 years and seeks to blur the boundaries between art and craft.   In her own work she combines drawn and painted marks with thread, paper and fabric, with machine embroidery to add depth and texture.
In this three-day design workshop you will be using drawn lines, colour washes, wax resist, collage and folding techniques to free up and create expressive compositions for development into stitched work.

Using the landscape as a starting point you will work loose expressive mark making using a combination of drawn marks and torn collage work to create dynamic simplified compositions which can be fragmented using folding techniques to generate surprising abstract compositions.
You will also have the opportunity to extend and explore  your compositions into surfaces for hand and free machine stitch.
