Spend time exploring the qualities of cloth
and hand stitch in a neutral palette

Stitched textile artist Amanda Clayton is passionate about the purity of cloth and thread and says: 'My creative practice is my life.  It intertwines with my friends, family, home, garden and travels...I am still learning, challenging and I am never satisfied.  This drives me forward to my next piece. Creativity is my life.'

She feels working primarily in neutrals can put the emphasis on elements that can ordinarily be overlooked.

This three-day workshop is very much about experimenting and taking risks. You will be challenging the qualities of the cloth you work with by being creative with bias, shaping, construction,  right side/wrong side, with a particular emphasis on as well as taking it from flat to three dimensional form.

The course will involve responding to a primary source , developing concept, imagery and your own visual language. You'll work with hand stitch as a functional element, rediscovering old techniques in a new context and exploring the inherent qualities of cloth.

You may not go away with resolved pieces but you will have lots of ideas to develop back in your own studio, and a greater understanding of your own individual visual language.
Amanda enjoys a positive studio atmosphere of encouraging students and identifying their individual strengths whilst supporting an informed working process.

The Fragile Forms workshop with Amanda Clayton  will appeal to both beginners or more experienced stitchers.

Scrumptious biscuits with your morning coffee, a light seasonal lunch and a 'naughty, but nice' cake with a pot of afternoon tea.  All this and a day being creative in the company of like minded people, what's not to like?
