Contemporary Welsh quilting - a sampler with an individual twist
Welsh quilting is a fascinating quilting style, combining hearts, spirals, and Paisley pears amongst other lovely patterns, all set off in borders around a central medallion. We love it!
Hazel likes to take the traditional patterns and work them by hand and machine to give this very traditional quilting style a very modern twist, which she often uses in her own quilt making. In her award winning quilt, Devoted to You, featured above, hand dyed fabrics, silk velvets and applied chenille elements have been combined with fabric manipulation, hand and machine stitching.
Over this three day course Hazel will show you how to draft and stitch different patterns and settings so you too can create your own unique modern Welsh quilt. You will have a go at manipulating and chenilling fabrics to create elements for your design and even raid her stash of hand-dyed velvets too! This project provides an ideal opportunity for you to use your precious collection of unusual threads if you have one, or make one if you don't!
The Contemporary Welsh sampler course is suitable for both beginners as well as those with some stitching experience.
The next course will run on Friday from 9.30am until about 3.30pm on 19th January, 9th February and 9th March 2018.
We provide tea and coffee (and maybe a cake or two!) but you will need to bring your own packed lunch.
Cost: £180. A £60 deposit will secure your place.
