Make your Mark - with discharge printing & stitch
A two day workshop with Clive Barnett
Although originally trained as a weaver at the Winchester School of Art it wasn't until he retired from the NHS as a learning disability nurse did Clive's interest in textiles become rekindled. Following the completion of his City & Guilds qualification Clive won the Graduate Award at the Festival of Quilts in 2011. This was followed by his own stand the following year where Clive was able to showcase a new collection of textiles.
Clive now divides his time between printing and stitching, producing a range of printed silk and linen scarves; as well as teaching a variety of fabric printing processes, with a particular interest in discharge fabric printing. Clive's style is mainly abstract and he uses dye and discharge printing as well as hand stitching to generate layers of abstract marks that create visual relationships and rhythms across the fabric surface.
Discharge printing is a chemical process of printing that removes the colour from the fabric – revealing the lighter base colour of the pre-dyed or printed fabric.
During this workshop Clive will demonstrate two printing processes, mono-printing and silk screen printing and show a collection of printed and stitched samples to guide you through the workshop.
